New Office Visit Protocols to Keep You Safe

We hope that you are well and safe during these unprecedented times. The Department of Ophthalmology has been extremely busy since the start of the pandemic, helping our colleagues throughout the hospital system and at the same time developing new policies and processes to aide ophthalmologists throughout the region to develop thoughtful, meaningful, and safe ways to deliver the highest quality eye care that both you and we expect. At the same time, our researcher and educators have been engaged in devising new ways to advance the vision science and educate the next generation of ophthalmologists.

Despite the pandemic, we have never stopped treating and operating on patients with emergent and urgent problems. We have implemented a variety of new procedures surrounding your visit to our office, all aimed at keeping you safe. Before your visit, you will receive a telephone call to review what you can expect at your visit.

Here are some of the new things you will notice to keep everyone safe:

  • Checking In Before You Arrive: eCheckin is now a click away. Complete all your forms and pay your co-pays online up to 5 days before your actual appointment. To get this functionality, sign up for Connect Patient Portal. In addition to eCheckin, you'll also be able to set up telemedicine visit, ask your doctor a question, or refill your medication via Connect.

  • Pre-Visit With A Staff Member: one of our clinical staff members will contact you the evening before your visit to review your medical history and prepare us for your visit.

  • We Will Not Be Asking You To Wait: In our new system, your testing will be done in an expeditious and safe way, and your doctor will see you rapidly upon completion.

  • Staff and Patient Protection: Our care teams follow CDC guidelines, have the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and wear it at all times. We have also established screening and testing protocols for our care teams.

  • Disinfection and Cleaning: Our locations are repeatedly and thoroughly sanitized throughout each day. Exam rooms are cleaned extensively between patient visits.

  • Visitors: For your safety, and the safety of our patients and staff, there are limitations on visitors. We will continue to follow the NYS Department of Health guidelines. Our visitor policy is available on our website.

We know that not everyone is ready to return to the doctor’s office because of fear of the COVID virus. As patients ourselves we understand your concerns. That being said, we are concerned about your vision and are here for you.

Please call us at (212) 305-9535 for an appointment or if you have any questions.
