Coronary

Coronary Cataract. Slitlamp and retroillumination view of bilateral coronary cataract demonstrating club-shaped and focal dots opacities distributed radially in the deep cortex.
  • Usually sporadic or occasionally familial
  • Has also been described as dominantly inherited
  • Categorized as zonular cataract because the opacities occur in only one region of the lens, the deep cortex around the nucleus

Clinical Features

  • Symptoms: usually asymptomatic because of their peripheral location
  • Signs:
    • Club-shaped, oval, discrete opacities
    • Commonly associated with focal dot opacities
    • Distributed in a radial pattern surrounding the nucleus like a crown
