Fetal Nuclear

Congenital fetal nuclear cataract.
  • A congenital cataract, which may be dominantly inherited.
  • May be idiopathic or associated with systemic diseases such as rubella and Lowe's syndrome or from trauma during early gestational age.

Clinical Features

  • Small, central area of opacification that is limited to the embryonic nucleus surrounded by remaining clear lens
  • Usually is bilateral and non-progressive
  • May be filled with white dot-like opacities and is sometimes polychromatic which is called congenital cataract pulverulenta centralis.
