Piggy Back IOLs

Piggy back intraocular lenses. One was placed in the capsular bag and the other one in the ciliary sulcus.
  • Placing two artificial intraocular lenses (IOLs) in one eye after cataract removal surgery.

Indication

  • Hyperopic eyes
  • Miscalculation of lens power which causes significant post-operative refractive error
  • Explantation or removal of previously implanted IOL is difficult and/or may cause greater risk
  • Slit lamp examination demonstrates two IOLs in either the same or two different anatomical section(s) such as in capsular bag, ciliary sulcus and/ or transclerally fixated lens.
